4 things that really productive people do every single day
If something is working for you, then stick with it.
Don’t fix what isn’t broken, e.g. some people like running as a form of exercise, some like work out videos, others like swimming. So work with what is good for you. Either way can be right.
1. Become friends with time
Those that are productive don’t look at time as the enemy. Most of us if we are honest are always negative about time. It’s never enough, we would love to stop it or kill it. So start saying nice things about time like “time is on my side.” Now don’t think of this as something a bit weird to do, just think about it for a minute. Whenever you think something is your enemy then it will always become a source of pain in your life.
2. Make your morning routine non negotiable
I think everyone should have a morning routine. A little collection of things you do before you begin to interact with the rest of the world. For example my routine is that I’m up at 6.30am, mediation and prayer, time with hubby and some exercise. Working by 9.30am. All these things I do set me up for success emotionally, spiritually and physically. Now I’m not perfect at this, say, if I have to catch a 8.30am flight or a one off situation occurs, I’m not going to get up at 5.30 to do all these things. But I challenge you to set up a morning routine, and the most important thing is to make it non-negotiable.
3. They Exercise
This is a big one, there is a ton of science that proves that exercise really does optimise your brain, your mood and your ability to focus. Which therefore optimises your ability to get things done and to a higher standard. Here is a book you should read if you have not read it, it’s the best book on the subject called “Spark” by John J. Ratey MD. Whenever I’m coaching someone who has a hard time focusing, one of the first questions I ask them is, “Are you working out?” and 95% of the time they say no. It is recommended that you should strive for 40mins, six days a week. This helps the brain focus and you get clarity from focusing not clarity from a thought. A confused mind always says no or yes to the wrong thing.
4. They aren't distracted
The biggest productivity challenge most people face is they don’t take themselves or their commitment to themselves seriously. Productive people dont allow themselves to be distracted. They ignore emails, invitations, interruptions and anything that comes in that could take them off track from their own self-imposed deadlines and obligations. They know what is important to them and everything else they will deal with at a later time.
So, when you know what is important it is a lot easier to ignore what is not...
Which productivity strategy would make the most difference to you?
